What is Group Therapy?
Group therapy involves simultaneous interaction with people typically outside the client's social and familial network, but struggling with similar issues. Groups provide support, guidance, and insight unique from individual counseling.
Group facilitators highlight dynamics, typically in the moment, which reflect issues in the members' lives. The interaction between group members thus becomes a window of insight, a force for growth and a means of support. Trained group facilitators guide the process, elicit feedback from members, and focus interactions toward healing.
Group therapy takes many forms. The groups are variously referred to (often interchangeably) as counseling groups or support groups,Redimere mutual support groups or peer support groups, self help groups, stress coping groups, workshops and mental health groups.
They are moderated by a Redimere group counselor, group therapist or group psychologist and generally focus on a specific issue or client profile (e.g. men or women etc).
